Washing Machine Leaking? Find the Source
A leaking washing machine can damage floors and cabinetry fast. The source is usually a seal, hose or drawer issue — and tracing it correctly is the key to a lasting fix.
Water on the laundry floor during or after a wash needs prompt attention before it damages flooring. Leaks can come from several points, and pinpointing the real source is what stops it coming back.
Common causes
- Worn door seal (front loaders). The rubber door boot perishes or tears over time, or traps debris that breaks the seal. This is a leading cause of front-loader leaks.
- Loose, split or perished hoses. Inlet or drain hoses can work loose, crack or perish, leaking water during fill or drain.
- Cracked detergent drawer or housing. A blocked or cracked dispenser drawer can overflow and leak down the front of the machine.
- Over-sudsing. Too much detergent, or the wrong type, creates excess suds that escape and look like a leak.
- Damaged tub or pump seal. Less common but more serious — a failed internal seal needs a proper repair.
Before you call: quick checks
Try to identify where the water appears — front, back or underneath — as this narrows the cause. Check hose connections at the back are tight, inspect a front-loader door seal for debris or tears, and make sure you're not overdosing detergent. If the source isn't obvious, book a diagnosis before it worsens.

Frequently asked
Where is my washing machine leaking from?
Front-loader leaks are most often the door seal; rear or underneath leaks usually point to hoses or internal seals; leaks down the front can be the detergent drawer. Identifying the location helps narrow the cause.
Is a leaking washing machine an emergency?
It's worth acting quickly to protect your flooring, but most leaks aren't dangerous. Turn off the tap to the machine if it's leaking heavily, and book a repair.
Can a door seal leak be repaired?
Yes — a worn or torn front-loader door seal is a common, well-understood repair that we can usually carry out on site.
